What is Thermowood?

Thermowood is a type of modified wood that has been heat-treated to improve its durability and stability. It is made by subjecting softwood, typically Scandinavian pine or spruce, to temperatures of
180–230 °C in a controlled environment with no oxygen. This process alters the chemical and physical properties of the wood, resulting in a material that is highly resistant to decay, moisture, fungi, insects, and weathering, deformation and making it less susceptible to shrinkage, warping, and cracking. Making it suitable for outdoor use without the need for additional treatments.
The main benefits of thermowood are its enhanced durability and stability, as well as its natural beauty. The heat treatment process eliminates most of the moisture and resin from the wood.
